SSL certificates
The SSL Certificates page in WPShift enables you to secure your WordPress site by installing an SSL certificate, which encrypts data between your site and its visitors. An SSL certificate is crucial for protecting sensitive information and improving your site's credibility and SEO rankings.
WPShift provides two main options for installing an SSL certificate: generating a free certificate via Let’s Encrypt or installing an existing certificate.
1. Generating a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate
WPShift offers a convenient way to generate a free SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt:
- Click Generate lets encrypt.
- WPShift will automatically generate and install the certificate, securing your site.
This process is quick and simple, and the certificate will be automatically renewed by WPShift.
2. Installing an existing SSL certificate
If you already have an SSL certificate from another provider, you can manually install it on your site:
- Click Install existing certificate.
- Enter the following information:
- Private key: Paste your private key.
- Certificate: Paste the SSL certificate.
- Expires at: Enter the expiration date of the certificate.
- Click Submit to install the certificate.
This option is useful if you have a custom SSL certificate or one purchased from a third-party provider.
3. Managing SSL status and renewals
After installation, WPShift will display the SSL status at the top of the SSL Certificates page. If you used Let’s Encrypt, WPShift will handle automatic renewals. For manually installed certificates, ensure you monitor the expiration date and renew the certificate before it expires to maintain site security.
The SSL Certificates page in WPShift makes it easy to manage your site’s SSL status, keeping your WordPress site secure and improving user trust and SEO performance.
