General server settings

The general server settings page in WPShift allows you to update key details about your server. This includes changing its name, adding optional notes, and modifying connection details such as the IPv4 address and SSH port. These settings are critical for ensuring WPShift can communicate with your server effectively.

⚠️ Warning: Any changes to the IPv4 address or SSH port should be made with caution. If these details are incorrect, WPShift will not be able to connect to the server.

What settings can you update?

  1. Server name
You can update the server's name to make it easier to identify within WPShift. This name is for your reference only and does not affect the server's functionality.

  2. Optional notes
Add notes to document details about the server, such as its purpose, special configurations, or other important information. Notes are entirely optional and only visible within your WPShift account.

  3. IPv4 address
The IPv4 address is used by WPShift to connect to your server. Ensure this is accurate, as an incorrect IP address will prevent WPShift from establishing a connection.

  4. SSH port
The SSH port is required for WPShift to communicate securely with your server. By default, most servers use port 22 for SSH. If your server uses a custom SSH port, you can update it here. Be sure the value is correct, as a mismatch will block WPShift's access to your server.

Important considerations

  • Double-check connection details:
Any changes to the IPv4 address or SSH port should be made with caution. If these details are incorrect, WPShift will not be able to connect to the server, which may interrupt functionality.

  • Impact of incorrect settings:
If WPShift cannot connect to the server due to incorrect settings, server management tasks like site deployments, backups, or updates will fail. Always verify the information before saving changes.

How to update settings

  1. Navigate to the Servers tab in your WPShift dashboard.
  2. Select the server you want to update.
  3. Open the Settings page.
  4. Update the desired fields:
    • Change the server name or add notes.
    • Modify the IPv4 address or SSH port if needed.
  5. Save the changes to apply them.

By keeping your general server settings accurate and up to date, you ensure seamless communication between WPShift and your server.
